The vision of Mission Wisconsin is to help employers connect with service members transitioning out of the military, spouses/life partners, and veterans through direct engagement.

Connecting service members and families to Wisconsin employers and communities by consulting with Wisconsin businesses on building sustainable transitioning service members and spouses’ programs.

Meet Our Team

Steve Janke

Founder & CEO

Steve Janke is a Marine veteran, founder and CEO of Mission Wisconsin. He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation as the statewide veterans field representative and military talent attraction program Manager. He was a fifth-generation dairy farmer in South Central Wisconsin.

Janine Smith

Career Development/Career Exploration Coach

Janine Smith is an experienced career development and exploration coach known for helping, educating, and empowering clients as they develop their personal strategic plan for a successful military or career transition. Janine has worked in the U.S. and Europe, providing military service members and their families with invaluable resources regarding the job search by providing diverse job search strategies to fit the client.

Janine has worked in the career guidance/career training and development industry for over a decade. She currently serves as a co-chair for the Military Spouses Economic Empowerment Zone (MSEEZ) for the State of Wisconsin with the Hiring Our Heroes Program. 

Whenever possible she commits her time and professionalism to those organizations with a need to understand the unique military job seeker.

Jen Griffis

Operations/Office Manager

Jen spent nearly two decades as a logistics coordinator, planning her family’s moves and adventures, crisscrossing the United States and the Pacific Ocean as a Marine Corps Spouse. With that came the public relations experience of meeting new people and developing lifelong relationships.

Japan was her favorite duty station, but she is coming to love the Midwestern kindness and beauty of Wisconsin! She is excited and dedicated to helping the military-connected community and Wisconsin-based employers achieve success.

Why work with us

As a veteran himself, Steve Janke knows the challenges of transitioning from military life to civilian life. With this experience in his back pocket, Steve was instrumental in helping build the state of Wisconsin’s military talent attraction program.

Through this work, Steve traveled to military bases across the globe, connecting with on-base personnel and those working in the transition space. This helped him build critical connections to bridge the gaps between service members and Wisconsin businesses.

He also met one-on-one with service members and their spouses. He took great pride in helping these individuals find opportunities in the “Great State of Wisconsin.” 

Steve is passionate about helping service members and their spouses  make their transition to civilian life as seamless as possible. He is also a passionate advocate for Wisconsin, its employers and its way of life.
